Brian Muir, P.Eng, Founder and Principal
Brian Muir, P.Eng. worked in the Vancouver technology sector after obtaining his electrical engineering degree from the University of British Columbia in 1989. He held engineering design positions with a number of start-up companies until his engagement with Creo Products Ltd in 1994. There, he held a variety of positions including project engineer for a multimillion dollar industrial system sold to large commercial printers. His responsibilities included site specification, management of electrical contractors, safety systems design, CSA/UL approvals and technical coordination with customers and overseas development partners.
Creo was purchased by Kodak in 2005, and as Kodak began dismantle the company Brian decided to focus on making a transition from the private technology sector into consulting engineering, He engaged in courses ranging from Canadian Electrical Code to small business management. After arriving in Comox he enjoyed a brief opportunity to work with Ron Blair, P.Eng of Blair Engineering (Nanoose Bay) prior to Ron’s retirement.
Now the principal and sole operator of the company, Brian handles business development, customer relations, engineering, and field work.
Robroy Schmidt - EIT - Design Engineer
Robroy Schmidt, EIT has been involved in the electrical construction industry for more than 20 years. He started his career as an electrician in 1995, became a red-seal journeyman in 2000, and obtained his master electrician certificate in 2006. In this time, he gained diverse experience in electrical construction; from single and multi-family residential buildings to multibillion-dollar industrial projects.
In 2008, he joined Sunwise Engineering Ltd as an electrical systems designer. He quickly demonstrated a capacity for engineering design and a passion for learning. His responsibilities included the design and specification of power, lighting, fire alarm, emergency, and communication systems. With his background in the electrical trade he was also tasked with site inspections, project management, and fire alarm verifications.
Robroy’s passion for learning and personal growth led him to the University of Victoria in 2011 where he obtained his degree in electrical engineering, graduating with distinction in 2016. He returned to Sunwise Engineering Ltd. in 2016 as an engineer-in-training where he gained new experiences in mechanical building systems design.
In 2017, the search for improved professional development led Robroy to Muir Engineering where he continues his path to becoming a licensed professional engineer under the guidance and mentorship of Brian Muir, P.Eng.
