Aspen Park Elementary School - Addition

Comox, BC

Driven by curiosity and built on purpose, this is where bold thinking meets thoughtful execution. Let’s create something meaningful together.

Project Type: New Construction

Aspen Park Elementary School, located in Comox and part of School District 71 (Comox Valley), underwent a significant expansion to address growing enrolment in the region. The addition comprises 11 new classrooms accommodating up to 270 students, along with dedicated special education spaces, accessible washrooms, and an elevator — all housed in a new standalone building connected to the existing school via a covered breezeway. The project was developed in collaboration with studioHuB Architects and construction was completed in early 2026.

Muir Engineering provided full electrical consulting services for the addition, including power distribution design, complete life safety systems (fire alarm, emergency lighting, and exit signage integrated with the existing building), and low voltage systems designed to School District 71 standards — including network, intercom/paging, and security infrastructure. Classroom lighting was designed with dimmable, colour-adjustable fixtures and photometric modelling to IES standards, with controls meeting ASHRAE requirements. As the electrical engineering firm closest to the project site, Muir Engineering brought both local knowledge and a long-standing working relationship with SD71 to the project.
