Project Type: Renovation
Courtenay City Hall at 830 Cliffe Avenue underwent a significant exterior renovation in 2011, designed by architect Martin Hagarty with the goal of transforming the building into a civic landmark that would complement nearby buildings like the Comox Valley Art Gallery, the Native Sons Hall, and the Sid Williams Theatre. The project is a model for other municipalities, demonstrating what could be achieved with an older building on a controlled budget. The renovation included new exterior cladding and a redesigned Cliffe Avenue frontage with upgraded landscaping.
Muir Engineering provided electrical consulting services for the project, covering exterior lighting at the building entry, architectural lighting for the renewed facade, and power for landscape lighting and irrigation along the Cliffe Avenue frontage. The scope included a review of the existing electrical and fire safety systems, lighting design supported by photometric analysis to meet both functional and aesthetic goals, and full tender and field review support through to project completion.
