Windsor Plywood

Salt Spring Island, BC

Driven by curiosity and built on purpose, this is where bold thinking meets thoughtful execution. Let’s create something meaningful together.

Project Type: New Construction

Windsor Plywood Salt Spring is an award-winning, independently owned building supply company serving Salt Spring Island and the surrounding Gulf Islands. After losing their retail building to a fire in June 2021, the store spent years operating from a temporary structure before undertaking construction of a permanent replacement. The new facility consists of two pre-engineered steel commercial buildings connected by a large second-floor mezzanine, totaling approximately 18,000 square feet, built on a concrete retaining wall foundation to manage the site's challenging terrain.

Muir Engineering provided full electrical consulting services for the new facility, working with Momentum Design Build across a phased construction program. The scope covered BC Hydro service application and power distribution design for the two-storey retail store, storage shed, and Phase 2 warehouse extension — including coordination with a solar consultant for potential future integration. Interior and exterior lighting design, fire alarm with dry suppression system integration, low voltage and point-of-sale systems, and pole-mounted yard and parking lighting were all included. Muir Engineering also completed the project's Integrated Systems Testing (IST) in compliance with CAN/ULC-S1001 to support occupancy. The project represents a meaningful chapter in Windsor Plywood's rebuilding story, and Muir Engineering was proud to help bring their new home to life.
